A mediator and medical doctor (Queens University Belfast 1980), Ephrem has practiced in Northern Ireland, The Middle East and Australia, as a GP, Addiction Physician and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist.
A "Child of the Troubles" in Northern Ireland, which started when he was 11 years old, he has a long and varied experience of conflict - personally, socially, culturally and professionally. He soon realized that at the centre of all conflicts were badly functioning relationships fueled by misperception and unconscious issues.

In 1996 he completed a dissertation on The Doctor-Patient Relationship towards his Masters degree in Psychotherapy and introduced Balint Group Training to Northern Ireland. This is an internationally validated method for training doctors (and more recently other health-care professionals) in the understanding and use of their professional relationships with their patients to minimise conflict and maximise patient care.
Using his understanding of intra-personal conflict to reduce inter-personal conflict, Ephrem has now transferred his considerable experience and expertise to the arena of Conflict Mediation.
